Trip Overview
Many travelers think Ranakpur is only accessible from Udaipur, but it is an easy and spectacular day trip from Jodhpur. This tour is a study in contrasts. You start in the flat, baking plains of Marwar and end up in the cool, green valleys of the Aravalli range.
At the end of the road lies Ranakpur, a temple so intricate it looks like it was woven from thread, not carved from stone. Built in the 15th century by a visionary merchant, it is a place of absolute silence, where the only sound is the wind whistling through the 1,444 unique pillars. It is not just a temple; it is a “poem in stone.”
Trip Highlights
What makes this day trip unforgettable.
✅ Chaumukha Mandir: Explore the main four-faced temple. The architecture represents the cosmos. The dome is held up by marble nymphs playing flutes, frozen in time for 600 years.
✅ Light & Shadow: Notice how the color of the marble pillars changes from gold to white as the sun moves across the open courtyards.
✅ The Hanging Pillar: Find the one pillar among thousands that hangs a few inches above the ground—a deliberate “imperfection” to remind us that only God is perfect.
✅ Om Banna (Bullet Baba): (Optional Stop) On the way, pay respects at the temple of the “Motorcycle God”—a Royal Enfield Bullet that is worshipped by travelers for safety.
✅ Jungle Setting: The temple is hidden deep in a forest valley, home to troops of Langur monkeys and peacocks, creating a serene atmosphere.
Timeline & Itinerary
09:00 AM: The Highway Drive
Your private chauffeur collects you in Jodhpur. We head south on NH-62. Watch the landscape change. The thorny shrubs of the desert are replaced by tall trees and rocky hills as we approach the Pali district.
11:00 AM: The Bullet Baba Stop
We make a quick stop at the Om Banna Temple. It is a bizarre and fascinating sight. You see devotees offering liquor and garlanding a 350cc Royal Enfield motorcycle. It is a unique slice of modern Rajasthani folklore.
12:30 PM: Arrival in the Valley
We reach Ranakpur. The temperature drops slightly. The white marble structure shines against the green forest backdrop.
The Audio Guide: We get your ticket (which includes a mandatory Audio Guide). Put on the headphones. As you step inside, the noise of the world disappears.
12:45 PM: The Walk of Pillars
Spend an hour walking through the 29 halls. Look up at the “Kalpavriksha” (Wish-Fulfilling Tree) carved on the ceiling. Try to find two identical pillars (Spoiler: You can’t). The detail is so fine it defies belief.
02:00 PM: Lunch at a Resort
We exit the temple and head to a nearby resort (like King’s Abode or Mana Hotel) for a relaxed lunch buffet surrounded by nature. (Lunch is Direct Payment).
03:00 PM: Sun Temple & Monkeys
Before leaving, visit the ancient Surya Narayan Temple nearby. It has erotic carvings on the exterior, a stark contrast to the asceticism of the Jain temple. Watch the Langur monkeys playing in the trees—they are the guardians of this valley.
03:30 PM: The Return Journey
We begin the drive back. The return journey is smooth, perfect for a nap.
06:30 PM: Doorstep Drop-off
We arrive back in Jodhpur. We drop you right at your hotel.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we visit Kumbhalgarh Fort also?
Yes. But it makes for a long day (11-12 hours). The route would be Jodhpur -> Ranakpur -> Kumbhalgarh -> Jodhpur. You will return late at night.
Can we be dropped in Udaipur instead of returning to Jodhpur?
Absolutely. This is a very popular "Transfer Tour." We can pick you up in Jodhpur, visit Ranakpur on the way, and drop you at your hotel in Udaipur. It saves time and money!
Are there tigers here?
No tigers, but Ranakpur is in a leopard sanctuary. While you won't see them on the main road during the day, you will definitely see monkeys and peacocks.
Is the road safe?
Yes, the highway from Jodhpur to Pali is excellent. The last hour involves winding roads through the hills, but our drivers are experienced professionals.
Is there a guide?
The ticket includes an excellent Audio Guide available in multiple languages (English, French, German, Spanish, etc.). It is very detailed and explains the history perfectly.
Is food available?
Yes, there are excellent resorts within 2 km of the temple serving buffet lunches (Indian/Continental). Inside the temple complex, there is a Dharamshala serving simple Jain food.
