Trip Overview

Ranakpur is a miracle of architecture hidden in a secluded valley of the Aravalli range. Built in the 15th century by a wealthy merchant named Dharna Shah after a divine dream, this Jain temple is dedicated to Lord Adinath. It is famous globally for its complexity—it has 29 halls, 80 domes, and 1,444 marble pillars, each carved with a unique design.

On this tour, you will leave the bustle of Udaipur and drive through the winding mountain roads of Gogunda. The temple appears suddenly from the dense forest like a white pearl. Inside, the play of sunlight and shadow on the carved marble creates a divine atmosphere that changes every hour. It is one of the five most important pilgrimage sites of Jainism and a UNESCO-tentative wonder.

Trip Highlights

What makes this day trip unforgettable.

  • The 1444 Pillars: Walk through the main Chaumukha Mandir (Four-Faced Temple). Try to find two identical pillars (You won’t!). The carving is so fine that the marble looks like lace.

  • The Hanging Pillar: Ask your guide to show you the one pillar that hangs slightly above the ground, a deliberate architectural marvel to remind us that nothing is perfect except God.

  • Rayana Tree: Pay respects to the ancient Rayana tree in the courtyard, believed to be planted by the founder Dharna Shah himself 600 years ago.

  • Surya Narayan Temple: Visit the small but stunning Sun Temple nearby, known for its intricate circular exterior and dynamic sculptures of the Sun God.

  • Valley of Monkeys: The forest around the temple is home to troops of gray Langurs. Watching them play in the trees adds a touch of nature to the spiritual trip.
