Trip Overview

Jawai Bandh (Leopard Conservation Reserve) is one of the most unique wildlife destinations in the world. It is not a jungle; it is a landscape of dramatic granite hills and caves. Here, the Leopards do not fear humans. They are often seen sitting on top of the rocks in broad daylight, watching over the villages below.

On this tour, you will drive from Udaipur to the raw, rugged terrain of Godwar. The highlight is the Private Jeep Safari. You will hop into a modified 4×4 open Gypsy that can climb the steep rocks (almost 60 degrees!) to get you close to the leopard caves. You will also see the magnificent Rabari Herdsmen with their red turbans and white clothes, herding goats right next to leopard habitats. It is a miracle of coexistence.

Trip Highlights

What makes this day trip unforgettable.

  • Guaranteed Thrill: Jawai has one of the highest densities of leopards in India. The chances of spotting one are very high (almost 80-90%).

  • Private Jeep Safari: Enjoy an exclusive 4×4 Open Jeep Safari. Our expert drivers take the jeep up the steep granite hills for the best views.

  • Jawai Dam View: Visit the massive Jawai Bandh (Dam). The water against the backdrop of hills is stunning.

  • Crocodile Spotting: The dam waters are home to huge Mugger Crocodiles. You can often see them basking on the shore.

  • Rabari Culture: Witness the unique lifestyle of the Rabari tribe. Their vibrant red turbans make for amazing portrait photography against the grey rocks.

  • Migratory Birds: In winter, the dam is full of Flamingos, Cranes, and Geese.

Timeline & Itinerary

11:00 AM: The Relaxed Start

Your private chauffeur arrives at your hotel in Udaipur. We head towards Sirohi on NH-27. The drive passes through the tunnels of the Aravalli range. It is a scenic and comfortable journey.

01:30 PM: Arrival & Lunch

We reach the Jawai/Bera region. We stop at a resort (like Jawai Castle or Varawal Leopard Lodge) for a fresh, hot lunch. The food here is rustic and spicy Rajasthani style. (Lunch is Direct Payment).

03:00 PM: The Safari Begins

This is the main event. You board your Private 4×4 Gypsy.

  • The Hill Climb: Hold on tight! The driver will take the jeep off-road and climb the smooth granite rocks. It feels like a roller coaster.

  • The Spotting: The tracker scans the caves. Suddenly, you see a tail flick or a golden coat against the grey stone. Watch the leopard resting, yawning, or walking with its cubs.

  • The Dam: We drive down to the water’s edge to look for crocodiles and birds.

06:00 PM: Sunset & High Tea

We stop at a high vantage point. Watch the sun go down behind the hills. The sky turns purple and orange. It is the perfect time for a cup of tea in the wild.

06:30 PM: The Return Drive

We say goodbye to the leopards and get back into your AC car. The drive back to Udaipur is smooth.

09:30 PM: Doorstep Drop-off

We arrive back in Udaipur. We drop you right at your hotel, with a camera full of “Big Cat” photos.

Is This Trip Perfect For You?

  • Wildlife Photographers: The lack of dense vegetation means you get clean, unobstructed shots of the leopards.

  • Bird Watchers: The dam is a paradise for water birds.

  • Families: Kids love the open jeep ride and seeing crocodiles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a leopard sighting guaranteed?

Almost. Unlike Ranthambore or Sariska where the forest is thick, Jawai has open rocks. The visibility is high. We have a 90% success rate in spotting leopards here.

Can we do a Morning Safari?

Yes. For a morning safari (6:00 AM), we must leave Udaipur by 3:30 AM. Most guests prefer the Evening Safari (leaving Udaipur at 11:00 AM) for a more relaxed day.

What should we wear?

Wear earth colors (brown, green, beige). Avoid bright red or neon colors as they can scare the animals. Bring a jacket in winter as the open jeep gets cold.

Is it safe in an open jeep?

Yes, 100%. The leopards of Jawai are known as "Ghost Cats" and are very shy. They have never attacked a tourist in history. They coexist peacefully with the locals.

Are there bears?

Yes, Sloth Bears are also found here, usually in the caves near the hilltops. Hyenas and Foxes are also common.

Can we visit the Ranakpur Temple on the way?

Yes. Ranakpur is on the route! We can do Udaipur -> Ranakpur (Jain Temple) -> Jawai Safari -> Udaipur. This makes for a perfect full-day itinerary (11-12 hours).
