Trip Overview

Chittorgarh Fort is not just a monument; it is the pride of Rajasthan. Standing tall on a 180-meter-high hill and spreading over 700 acres, it is the largest fort in India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This fort has witnessed three major sieges and three Jauhars (mass self-sacrifice by women) to protect their honor from invaders.

On this tour, you will drive on the smooth highway from the City of Lakes to the City of Valor. You will drive inside the massive fort complex (yes, the fort is so big it has a 13 km road loop inside!). From the towering Victory Tower that touches the clouds to the serene Padmini Palace surrounded by water, you will hear the legends of Rani Padmini, Rana Kumbha, and Meera Bai. It is an emotional and visual journey into the past.

Trip Highlights

What makes this day trip unforgettable.

  • Vijay Stambh (Victory Tower): Climb (or view from below) the imposing 9-story tower built by Rana Kumbha to celebrate his victory over the armies of Malwa and Gujarat.

  • Padmini Palace: Visit the legendary summer palace located in the middle of a lotus pond, associated with the tale of Alauddin Khilji’s obsession with Rani Padmini.

  • Kirti Stambh (Tower of Fame): Admire the 12th-century tower dedicated to the first Jain Tirthankara, Adinath, featuring intricate carvings of naked figures.

  • Gaumukh Reservoir: See the sacred water tank located at the edge of the cliff. It is fed by a spring that comes through a stone cow’s mouth (Gaumukh).

  • Rana Kumbha Palace: Explore the massive ruined palace where it is believed the great devotee Meera Bai lived and worshipped Lord Krishna.

Timeline & Itinerary

09:00 AM: The Highway Drive

Your private chauffeur arrives at your hotel in Udaipur. We take the NH-27. The road cuts through the rugged Aravalli hills and vast marble stockyards. It is a smooth, fast drive.

11:30 AM: Arrival at the Fort

We reach Chittorgarh town and begin the zig-zag climb up the hill. We pass through seven massive Pols (Gates)—Padan Pol, Bhairon Pol, Hanuman Pol, etc.—each built to stop charging elephants and armies.

12:00 PM: The Towers of Glory

We start at the Vijay Stambh. Standing at its base, you feel small. The carvings on every inch of stone are mesmerizing. Nearby is the Kirti Stambh, older and equally detailed.

01:00 PM: Palaces & Legends

We drive to Rana Kumbha Palace. It is a maze of underground cellars and courtyards. Your guide will tell you the story of Panna Dai, the nurse who sacrificed her own son to save the future King Udai Singh here.

02:00 PM: Traditional Lunch

We take a break at a local restaurant (like Chittorgarh Fort Heritage Hotel or a highway resort). Enjoy spicy Rajasthani Laal Maas or Gatte ki Sabzi. (Lunch is Direct Payment).

03:00 PM: Padmini Palace & Gaumukh

Post-lunch, we visit the serene Padmini Palace. The water reflects the white building, creating a beautiful but tragic picture. Finally, we walk down to the Gaumukh Reservoir. The view of the city below from here is stunning.

04:30 PM: The Return Drive

We exit the fort through the Surya Pol (Sun Gate). The drive back to Udaipur is perfect for a nap.

07:00 PM: Doorstep Drop-off

We arrive back in Udaipur. We drop you right at your hotel, leaving you with memories of Rajputana glory.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we climb the Vijay Stambh?

Currently, No. The archaeological department (ASI) has closed the inner staircase of the Victory Tower for repairs and safety. You can admire it from the outside.

: Can we stop at Menal Waterfall?

Menal is about 90 km further from Chittorgarh towards Kota. It is not on the direct route from Udaipur. Adding Menal makes it a very long day (14 hours).

Can we combine this with Kumbhalgarh?

No. Chittorgarh (East) and Kumbhalgarh (West) are in opposite directions from Udaipur. You cannot do both in one day. They require separate day trips.

Is there a Light & Sound Show?

Yes. There is a show in the evening (around 7:00 PM). If you want to see this, we will have to start late from Udaipur (around 12:00 PM) and return late at night (around 10:00 PM).

Is it wheelchair friendly?

Partially. You can see the monuments from the car/parking area. However, entering the palaces (like Rana Kumbha Palace) involves steps and uneven surfaces which are difficult for wheelchairs.

Is it safe for solo female travelers?

Yes, very safe. The fort is a major tourist destination and is always busy.
