Trip Overview
Keoladeo Ghana National Park (formerly Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary) is a miracle of nature born from the whim of a Maharaja. Once a duck-hunting reserve where British Viceroys shot thousands of birds in a single day, it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site where not a single feather is harmed.
On this tour, you leave the stone monuments of Agra for the living wetlands of Bharatpur. This is a quiet, car-free zone. You will explore the park on a Cycle Rickshaw, guided by rickshaw pullers who are legendary bird experts themselves. In winter, the park becomes a global meeting point—birds fly in from Siberia, China, and Europe to winter here. It is a cacophony of life, color, and fluttering wings.
Trip Highlights
What makes this day trip unforgettable.
✅ Rickshaw Safari: Experience the unique charm of exploring the forest on a bicycle rickshaw. It is silent, eco-friendly, and allows you to get incredibly close to the birds without startling them.
✅ The Heronry: Witness the trees weighed down by hundreds of nesting Painted Storks. Their orange beaks and pink feathers against the green foliage are a photographer’s dream.
✅ Migratory Guests: Spot rare winter visitors like the Bar-headed Goose, Pelicans, and the endangered Siberian Crane (if lucky).
✅ Python Point: Visit the sun-drenched patches near the Python Point temple, where massive Indian Rock Pythons can be seen basking in the winter sun.
✅ The Wetlands: Marvel at the mosaic of woodlands, swamps, and grasslands that support everything from Golden Jackals to Spotted Deer.
Timeline & Itinerary
08:00 AM: The Morning Drive
Your private chauffeur collects you in Agra. We drive west on the Jaipur highway. The urban chaos quickly turns into mustard fields. In just over an hour, we reach the “Ghana” (dense forest).
09:30 AM: The Rickshaw Ride
We park the car at the entrance. Motor vehicles are banned inside.
The Transport: You hire a Cycle Rickshaw (Direct Payment). Meet your rickshaw puller—he likely knows more about birds than most botanists. He has a pair of binoculars ready.
The Entry: As you pedal past the barrier, the noise of the highway vanishes. All you hear is the rustle of leaves and distant calls.
10:00 AM: The Safari
We ride deeper into the park.
The Sightings: Stop at the first wetland. Watch Kingfishers diving for breakfast. See a Sarus Crane pair (the tallest flying bird) performing a courtship dance.
The Nesting: Reach the central colony. It is loud! Thousands of storks are feeding their chicks. It is a city of birds.
The Silence: Your puller stops and points. A python is sleeping near a burrow. A jackal trots across the path.
12:30 PM: The Return & Lunch
We ride back to the gate. We exit the park and head to a nearby heritage hotel like Laxmi Vilas Palace or The Bagh for a relaxed lunch in a garden setting. (Lunch is Direct Payment).
02:00 PM: The Return Journey
We begin the short drive back to Agra.
03:15 PM: Doorstep Drop-off
We arrive back in Agra. We drop you right at your hotel, leaving you with memories of a world ruled by wings.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we combine this with Fatehpur Sikri?
Yes! This is the perfect full-day combo. Plan: Agra -> Fatehpur Sikri (History) -> Bharatpur (Nature) -> Agra. Total time: 8-9 Hours.
Can we take our car inside?
No. Only authorized electric vans, cycle rickshaws, bicycles, and horse carriages (Tongas) are allowed. This keeps the park pollution-free.
What is the best time of day?
Early Morning (Sunrise) or Late Afternoon (Sunset). Birds are most active when the sun is low. Mid-afternoon can be quiet as birds rest in the shade.
Is it a Zoo?
No. It is a wild National Park. The animals and birds are free. There are no cages.
Can we walk instead of taking a rickshaw?
Yes. You can walk, or rent a bicycle and ride yourself! The main path is about 5-6 km long. Walking is great if you have lots of time, but a rickshaw is better for a half-day trip.
Is food available inside?
There is a small canteen inside the park (near the Keoladeo Temple) serving snacks and tea, but for a proper meal, it is better to eat at the hotels just outside the gate.
