Trip Overview

This tour is not for the faint-hearted! Bhangarh Fort is legally recognized by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) as the “Most Haunted Place in India.” Located on the border of the Sariska Tiger Reserve, this 17th-century city was abandoned overnight due to a legendary curse. Today, it stands as a breathtaking ruin—a city of roofless houses, ancient temples, and a majestic palace at the foot of a dark hill. The atmosphere here is undeniably eerie. On this trip, you will walk the “Bazaar of Ghosts,” hear the story of the wizard Singhiya and Princess Ratnavati, and experience the thrill of the unknown. We ensure you visit safely during the day and return well before sunset, as staying after dark is strictly prohibited.

Trip Highlights

What makes this day trip unforgettable.

  • The Ghost Town: Walk through the main gate and see the long lines of roofless shops (Johari Bazaar) where a bustling market once stood.

  • The Royal Palace: Climb to the top of the Royal Palace (seven stories high) for a panoramic view of the ruins and the surrounding valley.

  • The Temples: Surprisingly, the fort is filled with beautiful, active temples like the Gopinath Temple and Hanuman Temple, adding a divine contrast to the spooky vibe.

  • ✅ The Banyan Trees: Photography lovers will adore the ancient Banyan trees that have grown over the stone walls, creating a dramatic, Tomb Raider-like setting.

  • ✅ The Thrill: Experience the silence and the stories that make Bhangarh famous worldwide.

Timeline & Itinerary

10:00 AM: The Morning Escape

Your private chauffeur arrives at your hotel or residence in Jaipur. We leave the city and hit the Agra Highway. The landscape quickly changes from urban chaos to the rugged Aravalli hills. As we turn off the highway towards the villages, the roads become narrower and the surroundings quieter, setting the mood for the adventure.

12:00 PM: Entering the Forbidden City

We arrive at the gates of Bhangarh. Read the famous ASI signboard that warns: “Entering the borders of Bhangarh before sunrise and after sunset is strictly prohibited.” Feel the chill as you walk past the ancient Hanuman Temple at the entrance—the guardian of the fort.

12:30 PM: The Walk of Ruins

Stroll down the main market street. The stone walls of the shops are intact, but the roofs are missing—legend says no roof can ever stand in Bhangarh. Your driver or guide will share the local legends of the Wizard’s Curse that doomed this prosperous city in a single day.

01:30 PM: The Palace with a View

We hike up the gentle slope to the Royal Palace. Although in ruins, the architecture is stunning. From the top, you can see the entire layout of the abandoned city. It is the perfect spot for atmospheric photos. Watch out for the monkeys—they are the current rulers of this fort!

02:30 PM: Lunch on the Highway

After exploring the mysteries, we drive back towards the main highway. We stop at a clean, open-air restaurant (Dhabba) for a fresh, hot lunch. Discuss the stories and theories of Bhangarh over delicious Indian food (Direct Payment).

03:30 PM: The Return Drive

We begin the drive back to Jaipur. The return journey usually feels lighter as we leave the heavy atmosphere of the ruins behind. Relax in the AC car and enjoy the countryside views.

05:00 PM: Back to Civilization

We arrive back in the Pink City. We drop you right at your hotel doorstep, safe and sound, with a great story to tell your friends.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bhangarh really haunted?

Locals and many visitors believe so. There are countless stories of strange noises, feelings of being watched, and sudden perfumes. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, the atmosphere is definitely mysterious.

Can we combine this with Abhaneri Stepwell?

Yes! This is a great idea. Abhaneri (Chand Baori) is just 40 minutes from Bhangarh. We can easily visit both in a single day (approx. 9-10 hours trip).

Is there a guide included?

No, but you can hire local guides at the fort entrance for a small fee. They are great storytellers and will explain the legend of Princess Ratnavati and the curse in detail.

Is it safe to visit?

Yes, absolutely. During the day, it is a popular tourist spot filled with families and students. It is perfectly safe. The "danger" is only associated with staying there at night.

Can we stay there after sunset?

No. It is illegal. The ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) and local police prohibit entry after sunset due to the presence of wild animals (from the nearby tiger reserve) and the risk of getting lost in the ruins.

What is the best time to go?

We recommend leaving Jaipur around 9:00 AM or 10:00 AM. This allows you to reach the fort by noon, explore for 2-3 hours, and return comfortably before evening.
