We arrive at the gates of Bhangarh Fort. Read the warning signs and enter the “Forbidden City.” Walk past the ancient Banyan trees and the roofless market. Your driver or guide will share the chilling tale of Princess Ratnavati and the black magic that doomed this town. Explore the Gopinath Temple and climb the Royal Palace for a view of the valley.
01:30 PM: Village Drive & Lunch
Leaving the eerie vibes behind, we take a scenic 45-minute drive through the countryside to reach Abhaneri. Along the way, we stop at a clean highway restaurant for a delicious Rajasthani lunch. Enjoy hot Dal Baati or standard North Indian curry (Direct Payment).

We arrive at Abhaneri. Prepare to be amazed by Chand Baori. As you look down, the 3,500 narrow steps create a mesmerizing zigzag pattern that leads down to the cool green water. It is a masterpiece of engineering and art, built in the 9th century.

Just next door is the Harshat Mata Temple, dedicated to the Goddess of Joy. Although damaged by invaders long ago, the remaining pillars and sculptures are incredible. It is a peaceful place to end the sightseeing.

Which one should we visit first?
We usually recommend visiting Bhangarh first. This ensures we have ample time to explore the large fort area in the morning/afternoon light and then visit the smaller Abhaneri site on the way back.
Can we climb down the steps at Chand Baori?
Generally, no. Visitors are allowed to view the stepwell from the corridors and upper levels. Going down to the water is restricted to protect the ancient structure.
How much walking is involved?
Bhangarh requires about 1-2 km of walking to see the main palace. Abhaneri requires very little walking as the car goes almost to the gate.
Is the road between Bhangarh and Abhaneri good?
It is a single-lane state road, but it is paved and decent. It passes through villages, so the speed is slower, but the views of rural life are excellent.
Is it safe for children?
Yes. Bhangarh is a very popular tourist spot during the day. However, keep an eye on kids as the terrain is rocky and there are monkeys in the area.
Can we start later than 9:00 AM?
Yes, but we don't recommend starting later than 11:00 AM, or you might feel rushed at Bhangarh before the sunset closure.
