Trip Overview
Ambaji is a major pilgrimage destination located just across the border in Gujarat. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths, where the Heart of Goddess Sati is believed to have fallen. What makes this temple unique is that there is no idol or statue of the Goddess in the sanctum. Instead, priests worship the sacred “Visayantra”, a geometric representation of the cosmos, dressed in such a way that it looks like an idol from a distance.
On this tour, you will enjoy a scenic drive through the Aravalli hills, crossing from Rajasthan into Gujarat. You will witness the dazzling new Golden Spire of the temple (made with over 100 kg of gold) and take a thrilling ropeway ride to Gabbar Hill, the original ancient seat of the Goddess.
Trip Highlights
What makes this day trip unforgettable.
✅ The Holy Yantra: Have Darshan at the main Ambaji Temple. Witness the mystery of the “Visayantra.” It is forbidden to photograph it, and devotees are asked to pray with open eyes but without focusing on the details of the Yantra itself.
✅ Gabbar Hill: Take the Udankhatola (Ropeway) to the top of Gabbar Hill. See the eternal flame (Akhand Jyot) that has been burning for centuries. The view of the Aravalli range from here is spectacular.
✅ Golden Temple: Admire the renovation of the temple shikhar, now covered in pure gold, glowing against the blue sky.
✅ Scenic Highway: The drive from Udaipur to Ambaji passes through tunnels and lush valleys near Mount Abu, making the journey as beautiful as the destination.
✅ Gujarat Border: Experience the cultural shift as you cross the Ratanpur border into the vibrant state of Gujarat.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we combine this with Mount Abu?
It is difficult. Mount Abu is near Ambaji (50 km away), but doing Udaipur -> Ambaji -> Mount Abu -> Udaipur in one day is extremely rushing (14+ hours). It is better to do them as a 2-day trip or stay overnight in Mount Abu.
Do we need a permit to enter Gujarat?
No. For tourists in private cars, no special permit is needed for a day trip. However, commercial yellow-plate vehicles (our taxi) need to pay the state tax at the border (which we handle/include in the cost).
Is there a dress code?
Casual modest clothing. Men are sometimes asked not to wear shorts (Bermudas) inside the main sanctum. Jeans/Trousers are fine.
Is the Ropeway safe for seniors?
Yes. The ropeway is modern and enclosed. It saves the effort of climbing 999 steps to the top of Gabbar Hill. Wheelchairs can reach the ropeway boarding point.
Is the food sweet?
Yes, Gujarati cuisine (Dal/Kadhi) tends to be sweet. If you prefer spicy food, ask for "Kathiyawadi" or Punjabi options which are also available in Ambaji.
Can we bring Prasad back?
Yes, the temple offers Mohanthal (a gram flour sweet) as Prasad. It is delicious and dry, so it travels well.
