Trip Overview

Sariska is a story of survival. In 2005, the world was shocked to learn that poachers had killed every single tiger in this reserve. The forest fell silent. But nature is resilient. Tigers were airlifted from Ranthambore, and today, Sariska roars again.

This tour takes you from the manicured gardens of the Taj Mahal to the rugged, thorny scrub of the Aravalli hills. Unlike other parks, Sariska is steeped in history. You aren’t just looking for tigers; you are driving past 10th-century temples, the ruins of medieval cities, and the haunting Kankwari Fort, where Emperor Aurangzeb imprisoned his own brother. It is a safari that feels like a scene from The Jungle Book.

Trip Highlights

What makes this day trip unforgettable.

  • The Tiger’s Return: Track the relocated tigers (ST-1, ST-2 bloodlines). The population is growing, and sightings are becoming frequent in the scrubland.

  • Kankwari Fort: View the grim hilltop fortress (from a distance or specific zones) that served as a high-security prison for Prince Dara Shikoh during the Mughal war of succession.

  • Pandupol Temple: Visit the ancient Hanuman temple deep inside the core zone. Legend says the Pandava brothers (from the Mahabharata) hid here during their exile.

  • Leopard Country: Sariska has a very high density of leopards. The rocky terrain makes it easier to spot them here than in Ranthambore.

  • Historical Ruins: The jungle is littered with old chhatris (cenotaphs) and temples reclaimed by banyan trees, giving it a “Lost World” vibe.

Timeline & Itinerary

08:30 AM: The Morning Departure

Your private chauffeur collects you in Agra. We drive west towards Bharatpur and then cut across into the Aravalli range. The landscape changes from flat plains to rocky ridges.

12:30 PM: Arrival & Lunch

We reach the gates of Sariska.

  • The Break: Before the safari, we stop at a resort (like Sariska Palace or Tiger Den) for a hearty lunch. The air is cleaner here, smelling of dry grass and dust. (Lunch is Direct Payment).

02:00 PM: The Jungle Entry

The Safari Begins. You board the open-top Gypsy (Jeep) or Canter.

  • The Zone: We enter the gate. The forest here is dry and deciduous—perfect for visibility.

  • The Search: The guide listens for alarm calls. A Sambar deer honking? A Langur monkey coughing? These are the signs that Shere Khan is on the move.

03:30 PM: The Ruins & The Cat

We drive past the Neelkanth Temple ruins.

  • The Encounter: Keep your camera ready. If not a tiger, you might see a Leopard basking on a rock ledge or a Hyena scurrying into the bushes. The backdrop of the brown hills makes every photo dramatic.

04:30 PM: The Pandupol Stop

We reach the Pandupol Hanuman Temple. Deep in the forest, surrounded by waterfalls (in monsoon) and langurs, this spot feels ancient and sacred. It is the only place in the park where you can step out of the vehicle.

05:30 PM: The Golden Hour

The sun begins to set. The jungle turns gold. This is when the predators wake up. We make our way back to the gate, eyes peeling the shadows.

06:00 PM: The Return Journey

We exit the park. Dust off your clothes, grab a tea, and hop back into your private car. The drive back to Agra is long but peaceful.

10:00 PM: Doorstep Drop-off

We arrive back in Agra.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ranthambore better?

Yes, for tigers. Ranthambore has a higher tiger density. However, Ranthambore is 6 hours from Agra (one way), making a same-day trip impossible. Sariska is the only "Same Day" wildlife option from Agra.

Is Pandupol Temple open every day?

Yes, but on Tuesdays and Saturdays, private vehicles are allowed to drive up to the temple (without a safari guide). It gets crowded and noisy on these days. We recommend avoiding Tuesdays/Saturdays for a serious wildlife safari.

What else can we see besides Tigers?

Sariska is famous for Leopards, Striped Hyenas, Golden Jackals, Jungle Cats, Sambars, Chitals, and massive Crocodiles in the Siliserh Lake (nearby).

Can we do a Morning Safari?

No. The morning safari starts at 6:30 AM. To reach on time, you would have to leave Agra at 2:00 AM. It is exhausting and dangerous to drive at night on highways. The Afternoon Safari (2:30 PM) is the only comfortable option.

Are there toilets inside the park?

Only at the Pandupol Temple area. There are no restrooms in the rest of the jungle.

Is Kankwari Fort open?

You can view it from the safari route. Entering the fort requires a specific zone permit and takes a lot of time, usually skipping the main tiger tracking areas. We recommend viewing it from the outside to maximize wildlife time.
