Trip Overview

Ramdevra (Runicha) is the resting place of Baba Ramdevji, a 14th-century warrior-saint who is worshipped by Hindus as an incarnation of Krishna and by Muslims as “Ramsa Pir.” He spent his life fighting against caste discrimination and performing miracles (Parchas) to help the poor.

On this tour, you will drive deep into the Thar Desert, following the path of millions of pilgrims who walk this route carrying multi-colored flags (Neja). The landscape turns stark and golden. You will bow at the Living Samadhi (tomb) where the saint took conscious exit from his body, and visit Pokhran, the land of nuclear history and red sandstone forts. It is a journey of faith that unites two religions.

Trip Highlights

What makes this day trip unforgettable.

  • The Samadhi: Have Darshan at the main temple built by the Maharaja of Bikaner. The atmosphere is electric with chants of “Jai Babari!”

  • Parcha Bawdi: Visit the ancient stepwell nearby. Legend says the water here was created by the Baba to quench the thirst of the locals, and it has healing powers.

  • Pokhran Fort: Stop at the Balagarh Fort in Pokhran. It is a beautiful, less-visited fort with a museum displaying royal armory and costumes.

  • Ramsagar Talab: Sit by the lake believed to be dug by Baba Ramdevji himself. It is a spot of serenity in the arid landscape.

  • Communal Harmony: Witness the unique sight of Hindu priests and Muslim fakirs worshipping in the same complex.

Timeline & Itinerary

08:00 AM: The Desert Highway

Your private chauffeur collects you in Jodhpur. We head west on NH-125. This is the ancient trade route to Sindh.

  • The View: As we leave the city, the trees disappear. You see endless stretches of sand and scrub. Watch out for groups of pilgrims walking on the side of the road, carrying the five-colored flag.

11:30 AM: The Red Fort of Pokhran

We reach the town of Pokhran (famous for India’s nuclear tests).

  • The Stop: We visit the Pokhran Fort. It stands red and proud against the yellow sand. Walk through the museum. It is small, intimate, and tells the story of the Champawat Rathores.

01:00 PM: Arrival at Runicha

We drive the final 12 km to Ramdevra. The town is bustling with devotees.

  • The Darshan: We buy the offering (usually a cloth horse, Ghoda, made of fabric). We enter the temple. The smell of incense and crushed marigolds is overwhelming.

  • The Samadhi: Bow before the tomb. It is not just stone; for the devotee, it is a living presence.

02:30 PM: Lunch at a Dharamshala

We step out for lunch. Ramdevra has simple Bhojanshalas serving pure vegetarian Rajasthani food (Dal Baati Churma). (Lunch is Direct Payment).

03:30 PM: The Stepwell of Miracles

Before leaving, we visit Parcha Bawdi. Walk down the steps. The water is cool. Devotees sprinkle it on their heads to cure ailments.

04:00 PM: The Return Journey

We begin the long drive back. The sun sets behind us, casting long shadows on the highway.

07:30 PM: Doorstep Drop-off

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Pokhran safe to visit (Radiation)?

Yes, 100%. The nuclear tests happened underground in the remote desert range back in 1974 and 1998. The town of Pokhran is completely safe, bustling, and radiation-free.

Is the temple crowded?

On normal days, it takes 30-45 minutes for Darshan. On Dooj (the second day of the lunar month) and Purnima (Full Moon), it can take 2-3 hours.

Are there camels?

Yes, outside the temple, you will find camel carts offering short rides around the Ramsagar Lake.

Can we continue to Jaisalmer from here?

Yes! Ramdevra is actually halfway to Jaisalmer. Smart Plan: Jodhpur -> Pokhran -> Ramdevra -> Drop in Jaisalmer. This saves you a full day of travel and money!

Is there a dress code?

Modest clothing. Men and women must cover their heads inside the main temple sanctum.

What is the "Dal Baati" offered here?

Ramdevra is famous for its community kitchens (Bhandaras). You can eat free food offered by devotees, or visit a restaurant. The Dal Baati here is rustic and spicy.
