Trip Overview
Nakoda is not just a temple; for millions, it is a powerhouse of faith. Located near the textile town of Balotra, amidst the dry hills of the Thar Desert, this sacred site is dedicated to Lord Parshvanath, but it is equally famous for the cult of Nakoda Bhairav—the divine protector.
On this tour, you will drive west from Jodhpur, watching the landscape turn into pure desert. The journey is a pilgrimage in itself. You will witness the “Miracle of Mewanagar,” where devotees believe that simply offering a coin or a thread to Bhairav Ji can solve life’s impossible problems. It is chaotic, vibrant, and incredibly powerful. We also combine this with a visit to Jasol, the home of Rani Bhatiyani (Majisa), a Rajput princess worshipped as a mother goddess.
Trip Highlights
What makes this day trip unforgettable.
✅ Nakoda Bhairav: Have Darshan of the deity known as “Haath ka Huzoor” (The God who is present right here). The energy in the main sanctum during the chant of “Bhairav Dada” is electrifying.
✅ The Ancient Idol: See the Mulnayak (Main Idol) of Parshvanath, which was hidden underground for centuries to protect it from invaders and rediscovered through a dream.
✅ Jasol Majisa: Visit the nearby temple of Rani Bhatiyani. Witness the fusion of Rajput valor and divine Shakti.
✅ Prasad: Taste the legendary Sukhdi (a sweet made of wheat, jaggery, and ghee) served piping hot at the temple kitchen.
✅ The Desert Drive: Enjoy the smooth drive on the Jodhpur-Barmer highway, passing by salt flats and dye factories of Balotra.
Timeline & Itinerary
09:00 AM: The Westward Drive
Your private chauffeur collects you in Jodhpur. We head west on NH-25. The city noise fades. You pass the Luni River and the industrial town of Balotra, where colorful fabrics dry in the desert sun.
11:15 AM: Arrival at Nakoda
We reach Mewanagar. The white spires of the temple rise against the brown hills.
The Entry: Leave your leather items in the car. Wash your hands. Step onto the cool marble.
The Darshan: First, bow to Lord Parshvanath in the main sanctum. Then, join the queue for Bhairav Ji. The idol is covered in silver foil and flowers. The air is thick with incense. Make your wish. Legend says he never sends a devotee away empty-handed.
12:30 PM: The Sweet Blessing
We head to the Bhojanshala (Dining Hall).
The Prasad: You must try the Sukhdi. It is considered auspicious to eat it within the temple premises.
01:15 PM: Jasol Majisa Temple
We drive 10 minutes to the village of Jasol.
The Legend: Hear the tragic and powerful story of Rani Bhatiyani. This is a rare temple where a Rajput Queen is worshipped as a deity. The temple architecture is stunning, resembling a royal palace more than a shrine.
02:15 PM: Lunch Break
We stop at a highway restaurant near Balotra for a pure vegetarian Rajasthani lunch. (Lunch is Direct Payment).
03:00 PM: The Return Journey
We begin the drive back to Jodhpur. The afternoon sun lights up the desert fields.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we eat inside the temple?
Yes. The temple has a massive Bhojanshala that serves clean, hygienic, and tasty Jain food (No onion/garlic) for a nominal token price. It is an experience in itself.
Is Jasol temple Hindu or Jain?
Jasol is a Hindu Temple dedicated to a Rajput Princess-turned-Goddess (Mata Rani Bhatiyani). However, people of all faiths (including many Jains visiting Nakoda) visit Jasol.
Can we combine this with Kiradu Temples?
No. Kiradu Temples (The Khajuraho of Rajasthan) are further ahead in Barmer (another 2.5 hours one way). Doing Nakoda + Kiradu + Jodhpur is a very long 14-hour day. It is better to stay overnight in Barmer for that.
Who is Nakoda Bhairav?
He is the Guardian Deity (Adhisthayaka Dev) of the pilgrimage. While the main Tirthankara is Parshvanath, Bhairav Ji is famous for granting worldly wishes and protecting the idol from thieves in ancient times.
Is the road safe?
Yes, the Jodhpur-Barmer highway is one of the best roads in Rajasthan due to the refinery and border movement. It is smooth and safe.
Can we buy Prasad to take home?
Yes. You can buy dry Prasad (mishri/nuts). However, there is a local belief that the Sukhdi (sweet) offered to Bhairav Ji should be consumed within the town limits of Nakoda/Mewanagar and not taken past the border.
