Trip Overview
Kumbhalgarh Fort is the ultimate symbol of Rajput power. Built by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century, it is the birthplace of the legendary warrior Maharana Pratap. But its true claim to fame is its massive perimeter wall. Stretching for 36 kilometers, it is the second-longest continuous wall in the world after the Great Wall of China.
On this tour, you will leave the lakes of Udaipur and drive deep into the Aravalli range. The road passes through the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, offering glimpses of wild jungle life. As you approach the fort, the massive serpentine walls appear on the horizon, snaking through 13 mountain peaks. This is a fortress that was never conquered in battle, and once you stand at its gates, you will understand why.
Trip Highlights
What makes this day trip unforgettable.
✅ The Great Wall: Walk on the massive ramparts that are wide enough for eight horses to run side-by-side. The view of the wall stretching into the horizon is unforgettable.
✅ Badal Mahal: Climb to the highest point of the fort, the Palace of Clouds. Painted in pastel colors, this airy palace offers a 360-degree view of the Mewar region and the Marwar plains.
✅ Neelkanth Mahadev: Visit the ancient Shiva temple with its towering 6-foot-high Lingam, where Rana Kumbha offered daily prayers.
✅ The Sanctuary Drive: Enjoy the thrilling drive through the dense forest sanctuary. Keep an eye out for Antelopes, Peacocks, and Langurs.
✅ Vedi Temple: See the sacrificial altar built by Rana Kumbha to mark the completion of the fort, a unique three-story Jain temple structure.
Timeline & Itinerary
09:00 AM: The Jungle Drive
Your private chauffeur arrives at your hotel in Udaipur. We head north towards the hills. The chaos of the city fades as we enter the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary. The air gets cooler, and the road winds through lush green forests (or golden dry woods in summer).
11:30 AM: Arrival at The Great Wall
We arrive at the massive Ram Pol (Main Gate). The size of the walls is intimidating. We buy tickets and enter the complex.
First Impression: You are greeted by a maze of temples and the zig-zag path leading up to the main palace.
12:00 PM: The Climb to Badal Mahal
We begin the walk up. It is a steep but paved path (approx. 20-30 mins).
Midway: Stop to catch your breath and admire the Kumbha Palace ruins.
The Top: Reach Badal Mahal. The wind here is strong. Walk through the Zenana (Ladies) and Mardana (Men) quarters. Look out the windows—on a clear day, you can see the sand dunes of the Thar Desert.
01:30 PM: Lunch with a View
We descend from the palace and exit the fort for lunch. There are excellent resorts nearby like The Aodhi or Kumbhalgarh Forest Retreat. Enjoy a hearty Rajasthani thali. (Lunch is Direct Payment).
02:30 PM: Temples & The Wall Walk
Post-lunch, we re-enter (or walk around the perimeter). Visit the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple. Then, take a long walk along the ramparts of the Great Wall. This is the best spot for photography—the curve of the wall against the mountains is dramatic.
04:30 PM: The Return Drive
Exhausted but feeling triumphant, we get back into the car. The drive back to Udaipur is relaxing as the sun sets over the hills.
07:00 PM: Doorstep Drop-off
We arrive back in Udaipur. We drop you right at your hotel, leaving you with the memory of the invincible fort.

Can we combine this with Haldighati?
Yes. Haldighati (the battlefield) is on the way. We can easily add a stop at the Haldighati Museum and Chetak Smarak. This adds about 1.5 hours to the trip.
What is special about the Neelkanth Temple?
The Shiva Lingam in this temple is 6 feet high. It is said that Rana Kumbha was so tall that he could perform the Abhishek (pouring water) on top of the Lingam while sitting down!
Is the road safe?
Yes, the road is paved and safe. However, the last 20 km is a "Ghat section" (mountain road) with curves. If you have motion sickness, sit in the front seat.
Is there a jungle safari here?
Yes, the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary offers a Jeep Safari. However, the timings (morning/evening) might clash with the fort visit on a single-day trip. If you want to do the safari, we need to leave Udaipur by 5:30 AM.
Is it suitable for kids?
Yes, kids love the "Great Wall" and the wide open spaces. Just be careful near the edge of the walls as there are no high railings in some parts.
