Trip Overview

Rajasthan is famous for its colors, and on this tour, you will see exactly how those colors end up on fabric. We take you to the twin textile towns of Sanganer and Bagru, famous globally for their Hand Block Printing.

  • Sanganer: Known for its fine floral patterns on white backgrounds and the famous Kagzi Handmade Paper.

  • Bagru: Known for its “Dabu” (mud-resist) technique and the use of natural vegetable dyes like Indigo and Harda.

The highlight of this trip is a Private Block Printing Workshop. You won’t just watch; you will sit with a master artisan (Chippa), pick a wooden block, dip it in color, and print your own scarf or napkin to take home as a souvenir. It is messy, colorful, and incredibly satisfying.

Trip Highlights

What makes this day trip unforgettable.

  • The Hands-On Workshop: Roll up your sleeves! Learn the ancient art of block printing and create your own distinct piece of fabric to take home.

  • The Indigo Vats: Walk through the Chippa Mohalla in Bagru. See the massive underground vats where fabric is dyed in rich, deep blue Indigo.

  • The Drying Fields: Witness acres of colorful fabrics drying in the open sun—a photographer’s paradise.

  • The Contrast: Understand the difference between the delicate Sanganeri prints and the earthy, bold Bagru prints.

Timeline & Itinerary

09:30 AM: The Artistic Start

Your private chauffeur arrives at your hotel in Jaipur. We head south to our first stop, Sanganer. As we enter the town, you will see colorful sheets drying on the river banks (or open fields). The air smells of dye and drying cloth.

10:00 AM: The Paper Factory (Kagzi Mohalla)

Before fabrics, we visit the Handmade Paper Factory. Watch the fascinating process of turning cotton rags into pulp, pressing it, and drying it to create the famous Sanganeri paper. You can buy beautiful diaries and lampshades here directly from the makers.

11:30 AM: Drive to Bagru

We leave Sanganer and drive 40 minutes west on the Ajmer Highway to Bagru. The vibe here is more rustic. This is the home of “Dabu”—the mud-resist printing technique.

12:15 PM: The Village Walk (Chippa Mohalla)

Walk through the Chippa Community (the caste of dyers). You will see families working together—men stamping blocks, women mixing mud paste, and grandfathers washing the cloth. See the famous “Indigo Vats” where the fabric turns from green to blue as it hits the oxygen.

01:00 PM: Authentic Lunch

We take a break for a simple, fresh lunch at a local restaurant on the highway. (Lunch is Direct Payment).

02:00 PM: The Block Printing Workshop The Main Event

We arrive at a Master Artisan’s workshop.

  1. Select: Choose your fabric and your favorite wooden block design (elephants, paisleys, geometric).

  2. Learn: The master shows you how to dip the block just right—not too much ink, not too little.

  3. Print: Thump. Thump. Thump. Align the corners and stamp your pattern.

  4. Keep: The fabric you print is yours to keep!

04:30 PM: Shopping & Tea

After washing your ink-stained hands, enjoy a cup of Chai with the artisan. You can browse their warehouse for bedsheets, kurtas, and quilts at wholesale prices (often 50% cheaper than Jaipur city shops).

05:30 PM: The Return Drive

With your self-made souvenir in hand and a new appreciation for handmade art, we drive back to Jaipur.

06:30 PM: Doorstep Drop-off

We arrive back in the Pink City. We drop you at your hotel, ending a creative and colorful day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Sanganer and Bagru prints?

Sanganer prints are usually on a white background with fine, colorful floral patterns (using chemical or vegetable dyes). Bagru prints are on red/black/beige backgrounds using "Dabu" (mud resist) and natural vegetable dyes (Indigo blue, Harda yellow, Iron black).

Is the paper factory interesting?

Absolutely. Seeing how cotton waste is recycled into premium paper is fascinating. Sanganer is the largest center for handmade paper in India.

Is the workshop suitable for kids?

Yes, kids above 5 years love it. It’s like a sophisticated art class. We use safe, non-toxic colors for the workshop.

Can I bring my own t-shirt to print?

Yes! You are welcome to bring a white cotton t-shirt or scarf to print on. The workshop usually provides a small sample cloth or napkin.

How long is the workshop?

A typical tourist workshop lasts about 45 minutes to 1 hour. This gives you enough time to learn the technique and print a small piece. Detailed masterclasses (3-4 hours) can also be arranged on request.

Can we buy fabrics there?

Yes. This is the wholesale hub. You can buy quilts (Jaipuri Razai), bedsheets, and fabric by the meter at significantly lower prices than in Jaipur markets like Johri Bazaar.
