Trip Overview
Escape the desert heat and head to the water! Bisalpur Dam, built on the Banas River, is the largest dam in Rajasthan and a major water source for Jaipur. But for travelers, it is a hidden gem often called the “Mini Goa of Rajasthan” due to its vast expanse of blue water and scenic banks. On this day trip, you will visit the massive dam, see the 12th-century Gokarneshwar Mahadev Temple (which gets submerged when the water is high!), and explore the new Bisalpur Aquarium. It is the perfect spot for a family picnic, birdwatching, and enjoying a boat ride in the middle of a desert state.
Trip Highlights
What makes this day trip unforgettable.
✅ The Massive Dam: Witness the sheer scale of the Bisalpur Dam. When the gates are open during the monsoon, the view of the gushing water is thunderous and spectacular.
✅ Ancient Mystery: Visit the Gokarneshwar Mahadev Temple, a 12th-century Shiva temple built by Bisal Deo. It holds great archaeological importance and offers stunning river views.
✅ Bisalpur Aquarium: Explore the Color Aquarium, home to diverse fish species. It is a hit with children and nature lovers.
✅ Boating Fun: Enjoy a speed boat or paddle boat ride in the catchment area. The cool breeze and blue water make you forget you are in Rajasthan.
✅ Birdwatching: In winter, the reservoir attracts thousands of migratory birds, including Flamingos, Cranes, and Storks.
Timeline & Itinerary
08:00 AM: The Morning Drive
Your private chauffeur arrives at your hotel in Jaipur. We head south on Tonk Road (NH-52). The drive takes you through the town of Tonk (famous for its Nawabi history). The landscape changes from urban chaos to green fields near the Banas river basin.
11:30 AM: Arrival at the Dam
Welcome to Bisalpur! The first sight of the massive wall of water is breathtaking. We drive up to the viewing point. Feel the cool breeze blowing off the water. It is a perfect spot for panoramic photos.
12:30 PM: The Ancient Temple
We visit the Gokarneshwar Mahadev Temple (Bisal Deo Temple). This protected monument is an architectural marvel. If the water level is low, you can walk right up to it. If the dam is full, the courtyard might be submerged, creating a mystical “floating temple” look.
01:30 PM: Picnic Lunch
Bisalpur is a raw, natural spot with limited luxury restaurants. We recommend enjoying a Picnic Lunch by the water (carry your own) or eating at a simple local Dhaba nearby for hot Dal Baati. (Lunch is Direct Payment).
02:30 PM: Aquarium & Boating
Post-lunch, visit the Bisalpur Aquarium to see colorful marine life. Afterward, head to the boating point. Rent a speed boat and zip across the water. The view of the Aravalli hills reflecting in the lake is serene.
04:30 PM: Relax & Sunset
Spend some time sitting on the banks or “Ghats.” Watch the sun begin to lower, turning the water golden. It is a peaceful end to the adventure.
05:30 PM: The Return Drive
We begin the drive back to Jaipur. Relax in your AC car as we cruise back on the highway.
09:00 PM: Doorstep Drop-off
We arrive back in Jaipur. We drop you right at your hotel or residence, refreshed by a day near the water.
Is This Trip Perfect For You?
✅ Families & Kids: The aquarium and boating make it a fun day out for children.
✅ Monsoon Lovers: This is arguably the best monsoon destination near Jaipur when the dam gates are open.
✅ Offbeat Travelers: It is far less crowded than Pushkar or Ajmer, offering peace and quiet.
✅ Groups: Great for a group picnic where you just want to sit, eat, and chat by the water.
