Why We Curated This Specific Route

This itinerary is perfect for travelers who want to explore the diversity of Western India. It connects Gujarat’s UNESCO heritage with Rajasthan’s royal grandeur.

  • The Architectural Evolution: Witness the transition from the intricate Indo-Islamic stone lattice work of Ahmedabad (Sidi Saiyyed Mosque) to the grand Rajput palace architecture of Udaipur.

  • The Scenic Transition: The drive on Day 2 takes you from the flat industrial plains of Gujarat into the lush, rolling Aravalli hills of Rajasthan—a beautiful transformation to watch from your car window.

  • Gandhi to Royalty: Contrast the simplicity of Sabarmati Ashram with the opulence of the City Palace in one trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Udaipur from Ahmedabad?

It is approximately 260 km. The drive takes about 5 to 6 hours. The road is scenic, cutting through the Aravalli hills, and offers plenty of good food stops (Dhabas) along the way.

Can we visit the Statue of Unity?

The Statue of Unity is quite far from Ahmedabad (approx. 3-4 hours one way in a different direction). It cannot be comfortably included in this 4-day itinerary without adding an extra day.

Can we fly back from Udaipur?

Yes, Udaipur (Maharana Pratap Airport) has good connectivity to Delhi, Mumbai, and Jaipur. We will drop you at the airport on Day 4.

Can we drink alcohol in Ahmedabad?

No. Gujarat is a dry state. Alcohol is illegal without a special permit for tourists (which can be obtained at the airport but is a hassle). Wait until you cross the border into Udaipur (Rajasthan) to enjoy a drink.

Is the Adalaj Stepwell worth it?

Absolutely. It is an engineering masterpiece from the 15th century. The temperature inside the stepwell is significantly cooler than the outside, and the carvings are exquisite.

What is the best time to visit?

October to March is ideal. The weather is pleasant in both cities. Summers (April-June) can be very hot in Ahmedabad.
