Why We Curated This Specific Route

Most travelers stick to the Jaipur-Jodhpur route, missing the raw beauty of the deep desert. We designed this 4-day itinerary for those who want to see the “Real Rajasthan.”

  • The Stone Contrast: Witness the dramatic shift in architecture from the grand Red Sandstone of Bikaner to the glowing Yellow Sandstone of Jaisalmer.

  • The Birdwatcher’s Secret: We include a stop at Kheechan Village. In winter, this tiny village hosts thousands of migratory Demoiselle Cranes—a National Geographic-worthy spectacle you won’t find on standard tours.

  • The Living Desert: From the Camel Breeding Farm in Bikaner to the Camel Safari in Jaisalmer, this trip connects you with the animal that defines desert life.

The Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival & The Red City

Welcome to Bikaner. Upon your arrival at Bikaner railway station (or if driving from Jaipur), our representative will meet you. After checking in, we explore this fortified city. First, the unconquered Junagarh Fort. Unlike other hill forts, this sits on the plains, protected by massive moats and walls. The interiors are some of the best-preserved in India.

Next, we visit the Bhandasar Jain Temple, famous for its intricate paintings and the legend that ghee was used in its foundation instead of water. In the evening, we visit the National Research Centre on Camel. Watch the camel herds return from the dunes and try unique camel milk ice cream!

Day Highlights:

  • VIP Meet & Greet at Bikaner.

  • Explore the majestic Junagarh Fort.

  • Unique Experience: Visit Asia’s largest Camel Breeding Farm.

  • Taste Camel Milk products.

  • Overnight stay in Bikaner.

Day 02: The Crane Village & The Golden City

After breakfast, we begin our drive deeper into the desert towards Jaisalmer (approx. 5-6 hours). En route, we make a special stop at Kheechan Village. Every winter, thousands of Demoiselle Cranes migrate here from Mongolia. Watching the villagers feed them is a heartwarming sight.

We arrive in Jaisalmer by afternoon. After checking in, we head to Gadisar Lake and Vyas Chhatri. Watching the golden cenotaphs glow against the setting sun is the perfect introduction to the Golden City.

Day Highlights:

  • Scenic desert drive.

  • Nature Stop: Birdwatching at Kheechan Village.

  • Sunset views at Gadisar Lake.

  • Overnight stay in Jaisalmer City.

Day 03: The Living Fort & Night in the Dunes

Today, we explore the UNESCO World Heritage Jaisalmer Fort (Sonar Quila). It is a “Living Fort” where 4,000 people still reside. We walk through the narrow lanes, visiting ancient Jain Temples and the intricately carved Patwon Ki Haveli.

In the afternoon, we drive to the Sam Sand Dunes (40 km away). Check into your Desert Camp. The evening is for adventure: enjoy a Camel Safari on the dunes as the sun sets. The night comes alive with a campfire, traditional Rajasthani folk music, dance, and a gala dinner under the stars.

Day Highlights:

  • Explore the Living Fort & Jain Temples.

  • Admire the craftsmanship of Patwon Ki Haveli.

  • Adventure: Sunset Camel Ride on Sam Sand Dunes.

  • Cultural Night with Folk Dance & Dinner at Camp.

  • Overnight stay in a Luxury Tent.

Day 04: Ghost Villages & Farewell

Wake up to a desert sunrise. After breakfast at the camp, we check out and drive back towards Jaisalmer. On the way, we stop at Kuldhara, the famous “Ghost Village” abandoned overnight centuries ago. We also visit the ancient Lodhurva Jain Temple and the peaceful Amar Sagar.

We then transfer you to the Jaisalmer railway station for your onward journey, leaving you with memories of red forts and golden sands.

Day Highlights:

  • Visit the ancient Jain Temple at Lodhurva.

  • Mystery: Walk through the Haunted Village of Kuldhara.

  • Assisted drop-off at Jaisalmer Station.

  • End of services with happy memories.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do we reach Bikaner?

Train: Bikaner is well connected to Delhi, Jaipur, and Kolkata by overnight trains. Flight: There are limited flights from Delhi to Bikaner (Nal Airport). Alternatively, you can drive from Jaipur (5 hours).

How long is the drive from Bikaner to Jaisalmer?

It is approx. 330 km, which takes about 5 to 6 hours. The road (NH-11) is known as one of the best driving roads in Rajasthan—smooth and traffic-free.

What is special about Junagarh Fort?

While most forts in Rajasthan are built on high hills for defense, Junagarh was built on the flat plains. Its defense relied on a moat and thick walls. It is one of the few forts that was never conquered.

Can we add the Rat Temple (Deshnok)?

Yes! The famous Karni Mata Rat Temple is 30 km from Bikaner. We can easily add it on Day 1 or Day 2 morning before leaving for Jaisalmer.

Is Kheechan worth the stop?

If you are traveling between Nov-Feb, absolutely. Seeing thousands of birds descending to feed is magical. Outside of these months, it is just a quiet village, and we might recommend driving straight to Jaisalmer to get more time there.

Can we return to Bikaner/Jaipur from Jaisalmer?

Yes, but it will be a long drive back (5-6 hours to Bikaner, 10-11 hours to Jaipur). We recommend taking a train or flight out of Jaisalmer to save time.
