Why We Curated This Specific Route

Many travelers want to see the desert but don’t have the time for the long 6-hour drive to Jaisalmer. This itinerary is the perfect solution.

  • The “Smart” Desert Trip: We take you to Osian, an ancient desert town just 1.5 hours from Jodhpur. You get the full experience – sand dunes, camel rides, and camp stay – without spending half your vacation in a car.

  • The “Khajuraho of Rajasthan”: Osian isn’t just about sand; it is famous for its exquisitely carved 8th-century temples. It combines history with adventure.

  • The Complete Blue City: We don’t rush Jodhpur. You get a relaxed start at Mandore Gardens before diving into the massive Mehrangarh Fort on Day 2.

The Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival & The Ancient Capital

Welcome to the Blue City. Upon your arrival at Jodhpur airport or railway station, our representative will meet you for a smooth transfer to your hotel. After checking in, take some time to relax and escape the desert heat.

In the late afternoon, we visit Mandore Gardens, the ancient capital of Marwar before Jodhpur was built. It is a peaceful complex filled with monkeys, lush gardens, and towering royal cenotaphs (dewals) that look like Hindu temples. It is the perfect quiet introduction to the region’s history.

Day Highlights:

  • VIP Meet & Greet at Jodhpur Airport/Station.

  • Relaxed afternoon at the hotel.

  • Explore the royal cenotaphs at Mandore Gardens.

  • Walk through the “Hall of Heroes.”

Day 02: The Invincible Fort & Into the Dunes

After a hearty breakfast, we explore the pride of Jodhpur: Mehrangarh Fort. Rising perpendicular from the rock, it offers the best views of the blue houses. We also visit the white marble Jaswant Thada and the grand Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum.

In the afternoon, we leave the city and drive north to the ancient town of Osian (approx. 1.5 hours). Here, the landscape changes to golden sand. We check into your Desert Camp. Enjoy a Camel Safari on the dunes at sunset, followed by a cultural evening of Rajasthani folk music and dance around a campfire.

Day Highlights:

  • Explore the massive Mehrangarh Fort.

  • Visit Jaswant Thada & Umaid Bhawan Palace.

  • Drive to the ancient desert town of Osian.

  • Highlight: Sunset Camel Ride on Osian Sand Dunes.

  • Night stay in a Desert Camp with Folk Dance.

Day 03: Temple Blessings & Farewell

Wake up to a desert sunrise. After breakfast at the camp, you can visit the famous Sachiya Mata Temple in Osian, known for its stunning architecture. We then drive back to Jodhpur (1.5 hours).

Depending on your flight/train time, you can do some last-minute shopping for Jodhpuri spices and tie-dye fabrics at the Clock Tower Market. We then drop you at the airport or railway station for your onward journey, leaving you with memories of both stone and sand.

Day Highlights:

  • Desert sunrise at the camp.

  • Visit the ancient Sachiya Mata Temple (Optional).

  • Drive back to Jodhpur.

  • Shopping at Clock Tower (Time permitting).

  • Assisted drop-off at Airport/Station.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Osian different from Jaisalmer?

Jaisalmer is huge and famous, but it is 6 hours away. Osian is smaller, quieter, and only 1.5 hours away. The dunes in Osian are smaller than Jaisalmer's "Sam Dunes," but the experience of camping, camel rides, and folk music is very similar and much more convenient for short trips.

Can we visit the Osian temples?

Yes, Osian is famous for the Sachiya Mata Temple and the Sun Temple (dating back to the 8th century). They are architectural marvels often compared to Khajuraho. We can visit them on Day 3 morning before heading back.

Is the camel ride included?

Yes, a Camel Safari (usually 2 people per camel) is included in your package. If you prefer a faster thrill, you can hire a 4x4 Jeep at the dunes for an extra cost.

Are the tents comfortable?

Yes! We use "Swiss Tents." Imagine a hotel room with canvas walls. They have proper beds, electricity, and attached western bathrooms with running water.

What is Mandore Gardens?

Mandore was the capital of the Rathore clan before they built Jodhpur. It is a beautiful park filled with temples and cenotaphs. It is also famous for its large population of playful Langur monkeys (keep your food hidden!).

Can we start this tour from Jaisalmer?

This specific tour starts and ends in Jodhpur. If you are coming from Jaisalmer, we can modify the itinerary to pick you up there, but it would change the route significantly. Contact us for a custom plan.
