Why We Curated This Specific Route

Jawai is not your typical “National Park.” It is a miracle of coexistence where wild leopards live peacefully alongside the Rabari shepherds. We designed this 2-day escape for travelers who want to see wildlife without the fences.

  • No Fences, No Cages: Unlike Ranthambhore or Corbett, Jawai has no gates. The leopards sit openly on the billion-year-old granite rocks.

  • The “Avatar” Landscape: The landscape here is surreal—massive granite boulders rising from the earth, surrounded by the waters of the Jawai Dam. It is a photographer’s dream.

  • Culture Meets Wildlife: This isn’t just about animals. You get to see the vibrant Rabari Tribe (famous for their red turbans) herding their sheep just meters away from the leopard caves.

The Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Udaipur to Jawai | Into the Granite Hills

Your journey begins with a pickup from Udaipur airport or your hotel. We drive north towards the Godwar region (approx. 3 hours). As you approach Jawai, the landscape changes dramatically from city streets to rugged, prehistoric granite hills. We check you into your Luxury Tented Camp or Resort.

After settling in and enjoying a fresh lunch, the afternoon is for soaking in the silence. Jawai is quiet. In the evening, you can take a guided walk to a nearby Rabari Village to understand their unique lifestyle or simply enjoy high tea by the Jawai Dam, watching migratory birds (flamingos are common in winter) against the sunset.

Day Highlights:

  • Scenic drive from Udaipur to Godwar region.

  • Check-in to a Luxury Wilderness Camp.

  • Birdwatching near Jawai Dam.

  • Village walk to meet the Rabari Shepherds.

  • Stargazing in the clear night sky.

Day 02: The Leopard Safari | Tracking the Ghost of the Hills

We start before sunrise. This is when the “Ghost of the Hills” is most active. We board a customized 4×4 Open Jeep (Gypsy) for your Leopard Safari. Unlike dense forests where visibility is low, Jawai offers open sightings. Your tracker will scan the cave openings and rock ledges. Watching a leopard bask on a vertical rock face as the sun rises is a sight you will never forget.

After the thrill of the safari, we return to the camp for a hearty breakfast. We then check out and drive back to Udaipur, dropping you at the airport or railway station with memory cards full of stunning images.

Day Highlights:

  • The Main Event: Morning Leopard Safari in Open 4×4 Jeep.

  • Spotting Leopards, Crocodiles, and Blue Bulls.

  • Photography of the dramatic granite landscape.

  • Delicious breakfast at the camp.

  • Assisted drop-off at Udaipur.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the chances of seeing a Leopard?

Very high. Jawai has one of the highest densities of leopards in the world. Unlike forests where they hide in bushes, here they sit on open rocks. Sightings are almost guaranteed, though nature offers no promises.

Can we start this tour from Jodhpur?

Yes! Jawai is perfectly located between Udaipur (3 hours) and Jodhpur (2.5 hours). We can pick you up in Udaipur and drop you in Jodhpur (or vice versa) to fit your larger itinerary.

What other animals can we see?

Apart from leopards, you can see Sloth Bears, Striped Hyenas, Blue Bulls (Nilgai), and massive Crocodiles in the Jawai Dam. It is also a paradise for birdwatchers.

Is it safe in an open jeep?

Yes. The leopards of Jawai are unique; they have lived alongside humans for centuries and are not man-eaters. They are generally indifferent to the jeeps. However, we always maintain a respectful distance.

Is this suitable for children?

Yes, kids love the open jeep ride and seeing animals. However, silence is required during the safari, so very young infants might find it difficult.

Why is Jawai more expensive than other places?

Jawai is a private wilderness area, not a government park. The safaris are conducted in private jeeps on private land, and the camps are low-volume, high-quality properties. The exclusivity comes at a premium.
