Why we curated this specific route?
“The Marwar Triangle.”
While most tourists flock to Jaipur and Udaipur, the real soul of Rajasthan lies in the West. This route is for travelers who want to see the “rugged” Rajasthan.
We designed this loop to take you deep into the Thar Desert. You experience three distinct colors of sandstone architecture: the Blue of Jodhpur, the Gold of Jaisalmer, and the Red of Bikaner. It also includes unique stops like the Karni Mata (Rat) Temple and the Kheechan Crane Reserve, which standard tours often miss.
The Detailed Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Marwar | Jodhpur & Mandore
Drive: Airport Pick-up + Local Sightseeing.
Stay: Overnight in Jodhpur.
Welcome to Jodhpur, the gateway to the Thar. Upon arrival, our representative will transfer you to your heritage hotel. After relaxing, we visit Mandore Gardens, the ancient capital of Marwar before Jodhpur was built. Unlike a typical garden, it is filled with royal cenotaphs (chhatris) that look like temples, set against rocky hills. It is a peaceful introduction to the region’s history.
Day Highlights:
Meet & Greet at Jodhpur.
Walk through the royal cenotaphs of Mandore Gardens.
Relaxed evening to acclimatize to the desert weather.
Day 02: The Blue City | Forts & Heritage Walks
Drive: Local Sightseeing.
Stay: Overnight in Jodhpur.
We start the day at Mehrangarh Fort, Rudyard Kipling described it as “the work of giants.” It towers 400 feet above the city. The museum inside houses palanquins, armories, and royal cradles. We also visit Jaswant Thada, the milky-white marble memorial built for the King. In the afternoon, we dive into the Blue City. We take a guided walk through the indigo-painted lanes of Navchokiya and the bustling Clock Tower market. Don’t forget to try the famous Mirchi Vada (Spicy Chili Fritter).
Day Highlights:
Explore the colossal Mehrangarh Fort.
Visit Jaswant Thada & Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum.
Exclusive: Guided Heritage Walk in the Blue City lanes.
Day 03: Into the Gold | Jodhpur to Jaisalmer via Osian
Drive: 280 km | 5-6 Hours.
Stay: Overnight in Jaisalmer.
We leave the rocky terrain and head towards the deep sand. En route, we stop at Osian, often called the “Khajuraho of Rajasthan” for its beautifully carved 8th-century temples rising out of the sand dunes. By evening, the landscape turns completely arid, and the Golden Fort of Jaisalmer appears on the horizon like a mirage. We check into our hotel.
Day Highlights:
Visit the ancient Osian Temples.
Scenic drive through the heart of the Thar Desert.
First view of the Golden Fort lit up at night.
Day 04: The Living Fort & Dunes | Jaisalmer Safari
Drive: Local Sightseeing + 40km to Dunes.
Stay: Overnight in Desert Camp (Swiss Tent).
Jaisalmer is unique because its fort is “living”—people still live, shop, and eat inside it! We explore the Jaisalmer Fort, the intricate Jain Temples, and the wealthy merchants’ mansions like Patwon Ki Haveli. In the afternoon, we drive 40km west to the Sam Sand Dunes. Here, you trade the car for a Camel. Ride into the sunset across the rolling dunes. The night ends with a Folk Dance & Fire Show at your desert camp, followed by a traditional Rajasthani dinner.
Day Highlights:
Walking tour of the Living Fort.
Experience: Sunset Camel Safari on the Dunes.
Cultural Night & Dinner at Desert Camp.
Day 05: Ghost Villages & Birds | Jaisalmer to Bikaner
Drive: 330 km | 5-6 Hours.
Stay: Overnight in Bikaner.
We check out from the camp and visit the haunted village of Kuldhara – abandoned overnight centuries ago. We also see the royal cenotaphs at Badabagh. We then drive north to Bikaner. En route, we stop at Kheechan, a village famous for hosting thousands of migratory Demoiselle Cranes (in winter). It is a spectacular sight for nature lovers. We reach the fortified city of Bikaner by evening.
Day Highlights:
Explore the “Haunted” village of Kuldhara.
Spot Demoiselle Cranes at Kheechan (Seasonal).
Arrival in the Red City, Bikaner.
Day 06: Rats & Camels | Bikaner Sightseeing
Drive: Local Sightseeing.
Stay: Overnight in Bikaner.
Bikaner feels like a raw, untouched version of Jaipur. We visit Junagarh Fort, an architectural marvel that was never captured. Unlike other forts built on hills, this one stands proudly on the plains. Then, we drive to Deshnok to visit the famous Karni Mata Temple (Rat Temple). It is a unique spiritual experience where 25,000 black rats are worshipped. We end the day at the National Camel Breeding Farm, where you can taste camel milk ice cream!
Day Highlights:
Explore the invincible Junagarh Fort.
Unique: Visit the Karni Mata Rat Temple.
Visit the National Camel Research Centre.
Day 07: Farewell | Departure from Bikaner or Jodhpur
Drive: Airport Transfer (Bikaner) OR Drive back to Jodhpur (5 Hours).
After breakfast, your desert adventure concludes. Option 1: Drop at Bikaner Railway Station (connected to Delhi/Jaipur). Option 2: Drive back to Jodhpur Airport (approx. 5 hours) for your flight home. You leave with the warmth of the desert hospitality and stories of the warrior kings.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we start this tour from Jaipur?
Yes. You can drive from Jaipur to Bikaner (5 hours), then do the loop: Bikaner ➝ Jaisalmer ➝ Jodhpur. This works perfectly if you land in Jaipur.
How long is the Camel Ride?
The included camel ride is about 30-45 minutes during sunset. It takes you onto the dunes for photos. If you want a longer trek (1-2 hours), we can arrange that for an extra cost.
What is the best vehicle for this terrain?
The roads are good but long. For 2 people, a Sedan is fine. For 3+ people, we strongly recommend an Innova Crysta for legroom, as the drives between cities are 5-6 hours.
Is the desert camp safe for families?
Absolutely. We use fenced, secure, and family-friendly camps ("Swiss Tents"). They have attached western bathrooms, electricity, and running water. It is "Glamping," not rough camping.
Why visit Bikaner?
Bikaner is less "touristy" than Jaipur or Jodhpur. The Junagarh Fort is arguably the most beautifully decorated fort interior in Rajasthan. Plus, the Rat Temple is a globally unique phenomenon.
Is Kheechan worth the stop?
In winter (Nov-Feb), yes! Seeing thousands of cranes feeding together is magical. In summer, the birds migrate back, so we skip this stop and go straight to Bikaner.
