Why we curated this specific route?

“The Gateway to the Deep Desert.”

Most travelers visit the famous Golden Triangle and immediately turn back, completely missing the true, untouched beauty of the Thar Desert. We designed this specific route as a straight line into the wild west of Rajasthan for a very unique reason: to show you the changing landscape. Instead of a standard circle, this journey takes you from the bustling, colorful streets of Jaipur to the quiet, red-stone heritage of Bikaner, and then even deeper into the golden sands of Jaisalmer.

This approach gives you the perfect mix of royal city life and raw, peaceful desert culture. It is the absolute best way to watch the scenery slowly change from green hills to endless golden sand dunes in just 6 days.

After breakfast, we check out and drive towards Bikaner, a great desert city known for its rich heritage and camel culture. We arrive in the afternoon, check into the hotel, and take a short rest. Then, we visit the amazing Junagarh Fort. This is a rare fort because it is built on the flat plains, not on a hill, but it is still very strong and full of beautiful palaces and courtyards. Next, we see the detailed carvings at Bhandasar Jain Temple. Later, we visit the National Camel Breeding Farm to learn exactly how important camels are for desert life and traditions. Day Highlights:

Today, we check out and drive deeper into the desert towards Jaisalmer. On the way, we stop at Kheechan village. During the right season, this village hosts thousands of beautiful migratory birds called Demoiselle Cranes. We continue our drive and arrive in the Golden City of Jaisalmer by the afternoon. After relaxing at the hotel, we visit the peaceful Gadisar Lake and the Vyas Chhatri in the evening. Both places offer calm surroundings, open views, and are the absolute best spots to watch the sunset.

Day Highlights:

  • Spot migratory birds at Kheechan village (seasonal).

  • Enjoy the peaceful water at Gadisar Lake.

  • Watch a beautiful desert sunset from Vyas Chhatri.

Day 05: The Living Fort & Sand Dunes | Jaisalmer Sightseeing & Desert Camp

  • Drive: Local Sightseeing + Drive to Sand Dunes.

After breakfast, we start exploring the city. We visit the grand Jaisalmer Fort (Sonar Quila). This is a rare “living fort” because local homes, shops, and temples are still functioning inside its walls. We also explore the old Jain Temples and the finely carved stone houses like Patwon Ki Haveli and Nathmal Ki Haveli. Later, we drive out to the sand dunes. Here, you will enjoy a fun Camel Ride across the dunes as the sun goes down. In the evening, you stay at a Desert Camp, where you will eat a traditional dinner while watching local music and cultural dance programs.

If time permits before your flight or train, we will visit Kuldhara, a famous abandoned village known for its quiet streets and interesting local stories. We also visit Amarsagar, known for its peaceful setting and historical background. At the scheduled time, our driver will safely transfer you to the Jaisalmer airport or railway station for your onward journey home. Day Highlights:

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we start this tour in Jaisalmer instead?

Yes! We can easily run this tour in reverse. You can arrive in Jaisalmer, do the desert camp, drive to Bikaner, and end your trip in Jaipur.

Do I have to ride a camel at the sand dunes?

No. If you do not want to ride a camel, you can simply walk on the sand to watch the sunset. You can also choose the Jeep Safari upgrade to explore the dunes.

What kind of clothes should we pack for this trip?

Wear comfortable, light cotton clothes for the daytime city tours. Since you are going to the desert, bring a hat and sunglasses. If you travel in winter, you must bring a warm jacket for the chilly desert nights.

Are the desert camps safe and clean for families?

Yes, absolutely. We use high-quality "Swiss Tents" at the desert camp. They are very safe, perfect for families, and have real beds and attached western-style bathrooms.

Will we definitely see the birds at Kheechan village?

The Demoiselle Cranes are migratory birds. They usually visit Kheechan from November to February. If you travel during these winter months, you will see thousands of them.

How can we travel back from Jaisalmer?

Jaisalmer has a railway station with overnight trains to Delhi and Jaipur. It also has a small airport with flights to major cities, but these flights only run during the main tourist season (October to March).
