Why We Curated This Specific Route

This is the best itinerary for travelers who want to see the desert but do not want to rush. We designed this 5-day plan to separate the “City” experience from the “Desert” experience in Jaisalmer.

  • The “Split” Stay: In shorter tours, Jaisalmer city and the desert camp are done on the same day, which is tiring. Here, you spend Day 3 exploring the Golden Fort at ease and Day 4 relaxing at the Sand Dunes.

  • Nature & History: The drive from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer is long. We break it up with stops at Osian (for ancient temples) and Kheechan (to see thousands of migratory cranes), turning a boring drive into a sightseeing day.

  • The Complete Jodhpur: You get a full day to explore the massive Mehrangarh Fort and the local spice markets without rushing to the next city immediately.

The Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival & The Blue City Citadel

Welcome to the Sun City. Upon your arrival at Jodhpur airport or railway station, our representative will meet you and help you transfer to your hotel. After checking in, we head out to explore the city.

We visit the massive Mehrangarh Fort, which stands on a high cliff and offers the famous view of the blue houses. Next, we visit Jaswant Thada, a beautiful white marble memorial, and the grand Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum. We end the day with a walk through the Clock Tower Market, famous for its spices and lively atmosphere.

We also stop at Kheechan Village, famous for the thousands of Demoiselle Cranes that migrate here every winter. Seeing villagers feed these birds is a unique experience. We reach Jaisalmer by evening, check in to the hotel, and relax.

In the evening, we visit Vyas Chhatri (Golden Cenotaphs) and Gadisar Lake. Watching the sunset over the lake temples is a very peaceful way to end the day.

Day Highlights:

  • Drive to the Sam Sand Dunes.

  • Adventure: Sunset Camel Ride on the dunes.

  • Cultural Night with Folk Dance & Music.

  • Dinner and Overnight stay in a Desert Tent.

Day 05: Ghost Villages & Departure

After breakfast at the camp, we check out and drive back towards Jaisalmer. On the way, we stop at Kuldhara, the “Ghost Village” that was abandoned overnight centuries ago.

If time permits, we also visit the Lodhurva Jain Temple and the peaceful Amarsagar Lake. We then transfer you to the Jaisalmer airport or railway station for your onward journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Jodhpur from Jaisalmer?

It is approximately 280 km, which takes about 5 hours by road. With stops at Osian and Kheechan, the journey will take about 6-7 hours, but it is a scenic drive.

What is the difference between Day 3 and Day 4 in Jaisalmer?

On Day 3, you stay in a hotel in the main city to explore the Fort and Havelis comfortably. On Day 4, you move out to the desert (40km away) to stay in a tent and enjoy the dunes. This split gives you the best of both worlds.

What should we pack for the desert?

In winter (October to March), the desert gets very cold at night, so bring a heavy jacket. In the day, it is sunny, so sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen are important.

Can we fly back from Jaisalmer?

Yes, Jaisalmer has a small airport with flights to Delhi, Jaipur, and Mumbai (seasonal). Alternatively, you can take a direct train from Jaisalmer to major cities.

Is Kuldhara village safe to visit?

Yes, it is a protected heritage site. It is famous for being "haunted," but it is perfectly safe to visit during the day. It offers a fascinating look at how villages were built centuries ago.

Can we return to Jodhpur to catch our flight?

Yes, but it is a 5-hour drive back. If your flight is from Jodhpur, we recommend leaving Jaisalmer early in the morning on Day 5 to reach Jodhpur on time.
