Why We Curated This Specific Route

The standard Jaisalmer tour stops at the dunes. We go further. We designed this 4-day expedition for travelers who want to touch the edge of India.

  • The “Border” Movie Experience: We take you to Longewala, the exact site of the famous 1971 battle between India and Pakistan. Seeing the captured Pakistani tanks still stuck in the sand is a goosebump moment.

  • The Miracle Temple: You visit Tanot Mata Temple, located near the border. Legend says over 3,000 bombs were dropped here by the enemy, but not a single one exploded.

  • Complete Golden City: With 4 days, we don’t rush. You get a full day for the Fort and Havelis, plus a full night for the Desert Camp party.

The Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival & The Golden Sunset

Welcome to the Golden City. Upon your arrival at Jaisalmer airport or railway station, our representative will meet you for a transfer to your hotel. After checking in and washing off the travel dust, we begin with the city’s peaceful side.

In the evening, we visit Vyas Chhatri, a cluster of golden sandstone cenotaphs that glow during sunset. We then head to Gadisar Lake. Once the only water source for the city, today it is a serene spot surrounded by temples and ghats. It’s the perfect place to watch the sun dip below the horizon.

Day Highlights:

  • VIP Meet & Greet at Jaisalmer Airport/Station.

  • Relaxed afternoon at the hotel.

  • Sunset View: Vyas Chhatri Cenotaphs.

  • Walk around the historic Gadisar Lake.

  • Overnight stay in Jaisalmer City.

Day 02: The Living Fort & War Heroes

After breakfast, we explore the Jaisalmer Fort (Sonar Quila). Unlike other forts, this is a “Living Fort” with shops, hotels, and ancient Jain Temples inside. We then admire the intricate stone carvings of the famous merchant mansions: Patwon Ki Haveli and Nathmal Ki Haveli.

In the afternoon, we visit the Jaisalmer War Museum, a tribute to the bravery of the Indian Army. See captured enemy tanks and fighter jets. We end the day at Bada Bagh, a garden of royal cenotaphs standing tall in the desert wind.

Day Highlights:

  • Explore the UNESCO World Heritage “Living Fort.”

  • Visit the intricately carved Jain Temples.

  • Admire the stone latticework of Patwon Ki Haveli.

  • Salute: Visit the Jaisalmer War Museum.

  • Photo stop at Bada Bagh.

Day 03: The Border Run | Tanot, Longewala & Dunes

Today is for the patriots. After breakfast, we drive deeper into the Thar Desert towards the Pakistan border. First stop: Tanot Mata Temple (approx. 120km). Managed by the BSF (Border Security Force), this temple is legendary for its miraculous survival during the 1971 war.

Next, we visit the Longewala War Memorial. Stand on the battlefield where 120 Indian soldiers held off 2,000 enemy troops and 45 tanks. See the bunkers and the destroyed vehicles. By late afternoon, we drive to the Sam Sand Dunes. Check into your Desert Camp. Enjoy a Camel Safari on the dunes, followed by a bonfire, Rajasthani folk dance, and a gala dinner.

Day Highlights:

  • Spiritual: Visit the miracle Tanot Mata Temple.

  • Historic: Stand on the Longewala Battlefield (1971 War Site).

  • Adventure: Sunset Camel Ride on Sam Sand Dunes.

  • Cultural Night with Folk Dance & Dinner at Camp.

  • Overnight stay in a Luxury Tent.

Day 04: Ghost Villages & Departure

Wake up to a desert sunrise. After breakfast at the camp, we check out and drive back towards Jaisalmer. On the way, we stop at the “Ghost Village” of Kuldhara, abandoned centuries ago overnight. We also visit the ancient capital Lodhurva and the peaceful Amar Sagar.

We then transfer you to the Jaisalmer airport or railway station for your onward journey, leaving you with stories of unmatched valor and beauty.

Day Highlights:

  • Visit the ancient Jain Temple at Lodhurva.

  • Mystery: Walk through the Haunted Village of Kuldhara.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need a special permit for Tanot & Longewala?

For Indian citizens, no special written permit is needed, but you must carry valid ID proof. For Foreign Nationals, permission is required and restricted; please check with us in advance.

How long is the drive on Day 3?

It is a long day. Jaisalmer to Tanot is approx. 2 hours. Tanot to Longewala is 45 mins. Longewala to Sam Dunes is 1.5 hours. Total driving time is around 4-5 hours excluding stops.

Is it safe to stay in the desert camp?

Yes, absolutely. The Sam Sand Dunes area is a designated tourist zone with hundreds of camps, police presence, and electricity. It is very safe for families.

Can we cross the border?

No. You can go up to the BP 609 (Border Pillar) near Longewala if the BSF allows it on that specific day, but crossing is strictly impossible.

Is the War Museum different from Longewala?

Yes. The Jaisalmer War Museum (Day 2) is near the city and is a curated exhibition. Longewala (Day 3) is the actual open-air battlefield in the desert where the war happened. Both are must-visits.

What should we wear?

Comfortable walking shoes are a must. For the desert, bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat. In winter (Nov-Feb), bring heavy woolens as the open desert gets very cold at night.
